COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new theme park called Halo Ridge is coming to Olathe for children with special needs. The $338 million project led by Lamar Hunt Jr.—inspired by his grandson Michael—will include an amusement park with 20 adaptive rides, a medical office, a 150-room hotel, a 4-D theater and a sports arena, with construction starting by February.  FOX 4 Kansas City
  • Electric scooters are becoming popular in the metro as children use them to ride to school, and experts warn riders to use full protective gear for high-speed models—Scooter World KC noted that even affordable scooters can be dangerous. Local law enforcement and parents have urged stricter safety measures after a repair shop said modifications that boost speeds were declined—emphasizing the need for helmet and protective gear.  KCTV 5

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Kansas drivers face increased road hazards this fall as the deer rut and harvest season bring more deer and large slow-moving vehicles onto highways—conditions that can lead to serious accidents. The Kansas Highway Patrol advises motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and brake firmly to avoid collisions.  KSNT

  • Made in KC will open a new store at Oak Park Mall in Overland Park, marking its fifth Johnson County location; the upper-level space near 95th Street and Quivira Road will offer Kansas City-made gifts, apparel and art.  Johnson County Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Julie Steele is seeking a second term on the Olathe school board this November after winning by 65 votes in 2021. Her opponent Scott Enge has withdrawn from the race—his name will still appear on the ballot.  Johnson County Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kansas Legal Services held an expungement clinic at the Johnson County Courthouse in Olathe to help residents clear nonviolent felony records so they can improve their job chances—Christine Dane, who served time for theft and struggled with opioid addiction, said the service gives her hope for a fresh start. The clinic, organized with T-Mobile attorneys and paralegals, takes about two weeks to complete the process and is offered 15 times a year—providing a critical chance for rebuilding lives.  KMBC
