- ➤ Olathe launches six Halloween events this Friday with two fun opportunities for local kids—one being the Monster Mash at Indian Creek Library at 6:30 p.m., which requires online registration for 6th to 12th graders. Olathe Reporter
- ➤ Two Blue Valley graduates were named U.S. Presidential Scholars while Overland Park earned LEED Gold certification and Olathe high schools were recognized for their strong performing arts programs. About 450 locals ran in the KU Edwards Campus Rock Chalk run for student scholarships—Olathe Northwest High School graduate Max Cooper III is advancing on NBC’s The Voice. Johnson County Post
- ➤ An upcoming accessible amusement park and hockey rink at 119th and Renner in Olathe is nearly ready to begin construction after a nearly six-month delay+ James Arkell of Loretto Properties said the $320 million entertainment campus is set to start by February. Olathe Reporter

- ➤ Olathe resident Ron Fields opened his new record store, The Rock Shop, in September at 1837 S. Ridgeview Road to sell new and used vinyl records, music-themed art and gifts — he said he wants music lovers to enjoy a hangout for unique finds — in a space that once housed a massage parlor. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kansas Rep. Sharice Davids said she could run for the U.S. Senate in 2026 if redistricting splits her district and hampers her reelection chances. She made the comment at a news conference in D.C.—where lawmakers are debating plans that could split Johnson County—home to over 460,000 registered voters. KSNT
- ➤ Johnson County’s Public Works team earned the top award at the American Public Works Association’s Mid-America Equipment Expo+ they competed with 254 contestants from 22 agencies in six events. The team won the Team Trophy for the second year+ with several members receiving individual awards. Johnson County
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Lenexa Planning Commission approved plans for The Rise—an 11-story active adult community for residents 55 and older in Lenexa City Center. The project will include 132 apartments, office and restaurant space, community amenities, and parking improvements, with City Council set to review the plans on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. Johnson County Post
