The EPA is testing new cleanup methods at the former Chemical Commodities site after decades of solvent contamination in groundwater and air, has named a dozen companies to pay, and is asking about 50 nearby homeowners to allow air testing; Olathe says it is monitoring drinking water and stormwater.
EPA Region 7 says it has no system to flag home sales inside the Pollinator Prairie Superfund cleanup area in Olathe, and residents told KSHB reporters in October they sometimes learned about decades-old soil and groundwater contamination only after buying their homes; EPA continues cleanup and vapor-intrusion mitigation.
