Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 5th of November.
Good morning, Olathe.
💼 Business
IHOP closed its long-running restaurants in Shawnee on Shawnee Mission Parkway and in Overland Park on 91st Street and Metcalf Ave after serving the community for over a decade—while a new IHOP opened earlier in Overland Park near Oak Park Mall and five county locations remain.
🌲 Environment
Tonight the Southern Taurid meteor shower will peak with 5—10 green, gold, and orange meteors, though the bright supermoon—reaching its largest form at 5:49 p.m.—will wash out many of the meteors.
The full moon, the second supermoon of 2025, comes close to Earth, lighting up the sky and making the meteor show harder to see.
🏛️ Government
The Kansas City Royals sent a survey to thousands of fans on Monday asking for their opinions on a new stadium location that includes Overland Park as an option.
The survey covers topics like gameday experience and TV broadcasts as the team plans to leave Kauffman Stadium when its lease ends in January 2031 — local leaders differ on city incentives — with feedback set to shape the future plans.
