BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Walmart beef facility on 167th Street in south Olathe, which opened in June, is set to receive $257 million in industrial revenue bonds after a city council vote—these bonds include a 10-year 50% tax phase-in to help pay for construction and equipment costs.  Olathe Reporter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tuesday night's election results (unofficial) show that while some races in Gardner Edgerton and Spring Hill remain too close to call, the Olathe Board of Education stayed the same with Julie Steele winning 76.3% and Robert Kuhn and Becky Johann winning unopposed. Strong margins were also seen in Shawnee Mission and USD 232, with official counts set to be confirmed at 8:30 a.m. (final canvass) on Nov. 13.  Johnson County Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Olathe city council approved plans Tuesday for a local State Farm agency to build a new multi-tenant office at 117th and Black Bob. The empty lot, which once held a 12,000 square foot building built in 1980 and demolished in 2011, will host the new structure + work is set to begin soon.  Olathe Reporter
