- ➤ CSL expanded its food pantry hours at the North Noland Road location in Independence to help meet growing food demand caused by uncertainty over federal food assistance during the government shutdown. - ➤ Today, the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners approved nine new full-time positions — a move that will extend MED-ACT ambulance service from 8 to 12 hours daily — to meet growing demand beginning in 2026 while avoiding property tax hikes through a slight fee boost below regional averages. - ➤ At a previous Olathe Planning Commission meeting, officials said neighborhood opposition stalled a Michigan-based developer’s plan for 200 workforce apartments on a 14-acre site—residents raised concerns over traffic, crime and property values, further complicating efforts to ease the housing shortage in the county.
