  • High school students from Shawnee Mission’s Center for Academic Achievement are building gingerbread houses for a charity competition at Crestwood Shops in Brookside, which benefits the Child Protection Center that aids abused children—participants have one week to complete their projects before the contest runs Dec. 4—Dec. 6.  KCTV 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On November 6, JCCC hosted the 'In Their Own Words' panel where seven Mexican American veterans of the Vietnam War shared their experiences—an effort by the Veteran and Military Student Resource Center and the Kansas Studies Institute to give students a firsthand look at history. The event recorded veterans discussing their service and challenges in returning to civilian life.  Johnson County Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pizza 51 in Downtown Olathe, which opened in June, is set to receive its city bond and tax incentives today—amounting to $1,085,000 in industrial revenue bonds and a 10-year, 100 percent property tax phase-in—to help pay off construction costs for its 3,405 square foot building and 880 square foot patio.  Olathe Reporter

  • Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Kingsley Sumantaia entered the NFL concussion protocol after he hit his head on the turf following Patrick Mahomes’ interception during Sunday's game. Mike Caliendo replaced him as the team dropped 22-19 to the Broncos—Coach Andy Reid said Caliendo will be needed if Sumantaia remains out.  KSNT
