COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local food pantries in Olathe, Lenexa, and Overland Park report that even though SNAP benefits resumed on November 12th—high food prices, extended shutdown ripple effects, and holiday demand have kept need high. County officials have adjusted guidelines so eligible households can visit pantries every two weeks to help meet the continued demand.  Johnson County Post
  • Families in Johnson County can enjoy festive activities over Thanksgiving break including a free museum day today at Johnson County Museum—open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.—and a holiday light walk at Overland Park Botanical Gardens also starting today. Other events include a free light display at Farmstead Lane from Thanksgiving night through Dec. 31, historical demonstrations at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop on Nov. 28, a tree lighting at Bluhawk on Nov. 28, and a makerspace workshop at the Olathe Library Indian Creek branch on Nov. 29.  Johnson County Post

  • The owners of Rye are opening Cornflower Baked Goods in the Mission Farms complex next to their Leawood eatery. The new bakery will offer take-and-go pies, cinnamon rolls, savory breakfast items, grab-and-go sandwiches, canned cocktails and a coffee menu—featuring beans from Onyx Coffee Lab—and will open in late February or early March.  Johnson County Post
