EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rick Sola, principal at Chisholm Trail Middle School, was named state middle school principal of the year by the Kansas Principals Association—he will represent Kansas for the National Middle School Principal of the Year. He grew up in Olathe and has led it since 2020 with a focus on engagement.  Johnson County Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Johnson County Board of County Commissioners approved an expanded property tax relief program today for low-income homeowners (homes must have a 2025 value up to $500K). Applications will open Jan. 15 and run until Apr. 15, with eligible residents set to receive payments in 2026.  Johnson County
  • A new fire station opened Wednesday in De Soto marked by a firehose uncoupling that signaled the opening of the 19,355 sqft Sunflower Fire Station. The $17.15 million facility, which features 10 responder bunks and four vehicle bays (with offices, training, and community space), will serve northwest Johnson County.  KCTV 5

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Olathe Planning Commission recommended approval on Monday for two new mixed-use buildings at 151st and Mur-Len. One proposal features a three- and four-story apartment building (207 units) arranged around a courtyard, while the other is planned as a small retail space with a drive-thru.  Olathe Reporter
