- ➤ The Olathe city council approved an upgraded basketball court for Black Bob Park on Tuesday and plans to build the new facility in the same location as the old one. Olathe Reporter
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ New Jersey-based Burlington filed plans to open a discount clothing store in the former Joann’s shop at Parkway Plaza off Shawnee Mission Parkway in Shawnee. The move adds to planned Burlington locations in Overland Park & Olathe, with another store scheduled to open in spring 2027. Johnson County Post
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Blue Valley, De Soto, Olathe and Shawnee Mission school districts (the largest in Johnson County) formed the Kansas Public School Funding Coalition on Wednesday to explore legal options over a 15-year special ed funding gap that cost them over $119 million from their general budgets. - ➤ Gardner Edgerton’s school board left its seat unfilled after a 3-3 tie on May 11, with board members planning a second round of interviews (Livingston, Flowers, Lafferty) to reach a decision. Johnson County Post
- ➤ Margaret Mellott, who freelanced with the Post, will join full-time as the education reporter — covering K-12 schools starting in July. The Post earned its role as a Report for America host newsroom after a competitive process and now asks readers to donate toward her partial salary. Johnson County Post

- ➤ The Olathe City Council approved a new townhome development on 119th Street, east of Clare Road and west of K-7 Tuesday; the project includes 14 buildings with 72 units and had previously raised traffic concerns. Olathe Reporter
