  • Deputies are searching for the owner of a peacock seen near 151st and Gardner Road, north of Gardner on Memorial Day. The bird has been roaming for over a day and the Sheriff's Office asks anyone with information to call (913-782-0720).  KCTV 5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local scouts placed 441 poppy wreaths at the National World War I Museum and Memorial on Monday to honor 441 Kansas Citians killed in World War I — the ceremony also marked 100 years since the memorial’s dedication.  KSHB

  • At Young's Pool in Overland Park, aquatic supervisor Joey Procell urges parents to enroll children in swim lessons as Memorial Day weekend opens the season following a near doubling of drowning calls last summer. Local officials advise families to supervise kids closely + learn CPR to reduce water risks.  KCTV 5

  • Landry Shamet from Park Hill High led the Knicks to a decisive win on Monday night as he shot 11-of-12 from 3-point range, ending a 27-year Finals drought. The team will start their NBA Finals series on Wednesday, June 3, in either Oklahoma City & San Antonio.  KCTV 5
