- ➤ Joseph Andrew Wacaster pleaded guilty on April 21 to premeditated first-degree murder for killing his boyfriend Cade H. Blackburn in Edgerton and was sentenced to life in prison—he will be eligible for parole only after serving 25 years. KCTV 5
- ➤ Attorney Peter Goss, who drove the wrong way on a Missouri highway and collided head-on in late September — killing a 65-year-old man and prompting a DWI arrest—remains active in personal injury cases in Kansas as Missouri authorities work on a pending criminal case. Johnson County Post
- ➤ Olathe Police Department is cracking down on red light violations this summer after reports showed rising traffic issues when officers pulled over 20 drivers at the intersection of Santa Fe and Parker in a short time - the department will increase patrols at hotspots like K-7 and K-10 to address both red light running and aggressive driving incidents. - ➤ Research by Way.com's data team shows that Kansas drivers can get liability insurance as low as $27 and full coverage starting at $78 while drivers in Olathe average $149 per month for car insurance — the study also finds that traffic violations can raise premiums sharply from minor increases for speeding to jumps as high as $367 for a DUI. - ➤ City Council approved plans Tuesday for new regulations that will take effect in about a year to boost lower-cost housing in Olathe. The changes may include grant funding + pre-approved home plans + a land bank for pad-ready sites to help increase affordable homes. Olathe Reporter
- ➤ Johnson County plans to reopen roads closed since 1941 around the Astra Enterprise Park as development grows with the new Panasonic battery facility. County officials said the transportation connection plan will serve as a blueprint for future projects and a public open house is scheduled on June 11 at De Soto's Community Center—meant to improve connectivity in the region.
