ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Friday around 7 p.m., Johnson County MED-ACT and Lenexa firefighters rescued a 23 year old man and evacuated kittens from a building after a carbon monoxide leak triggered their detector; the man was treated at a hospital and released while the kittens remained safe. The city announced it will take over animal control duties from KC Pet Project starting July 30 as part of a new Animal Services Division focused on better targeted response and programs. KMBC

- ➤ A federal court judge ruled the family of a man shot and killed by a former Olathe police officer during a mental health crisis will receive an undisclosed settlement—court documents show. Olathe Reporter

- ➤ Johnson County will host the 127th Old Settlers Festival in downtown Olathe from Sept. 4 to Sept. 6, featuring live entertainment, carnival rides, crafts and a parade with over 130 participants (the festival first started in 1898) as free concerts (Arena Rock Giants on Friday and Creed Fisher on Saturday) add to the celebration. - ➤ Johnson County Community College is launching a new six‐week hybrid course called Navigating College this fall to help first-year, first-generation and undecided students build academic and career skills—students will earn college credit for completing the course. - ➤ Leaders said Kansas Trails, Inc. launched as the state’s first nonprofit to empower and support the trail community by providing maps, technical aid, and advocacy to keep trails accessible — and the organization will release free Trail.Talk.Tuesday webinars at noon on the second Tuesday of each month through January. - ➤ The Johnson County Parks and Recreation Department announced on Monday that it is revamping Kill Creek Park into its new largest park. The 3000 acre park, located south of De Soto and bordering West Olathe, will blend outdoor recreation, environmental restoration and historical preservation with points of interest such as streamways, natural areas, the Proving Grounds, Robert's Lake + the existing park.
