COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Olathe residents near 175th and Lone Elm raised concerns about a proposed $670M cold storage facility that a developer said will create 735 jobs but may worsen traffic and affect the neighborhood, and the Planning Commission denied the proposal last month. The City Council will review bond reports and tax breaks and vote on the project + on Sept 16.  KSHB

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Zen Donkey Wellness Cafe and Juicery, a Missouri-based brand that began as a delivery service, opened its first physical storefront in Fairway at the historic Fairway Shops off Shawnee Mission Parkway in August and now offers organic juices, superfood smoothies and healthy grab-and-go meals plus branded skincare and donkey-themed merchandise. Owner Kate Barker Sternberg said the community’s positive response confirmed the need for a welcoming space and that more storefronts will be planned in the future.  Johnson County Post
  • Asian Pearl, a local Asian restaurant at 18138 W. 119th St., had planned to close earlier this summer but will remain open after new owner Jin Wang took over. The restaurant will keep its familiar Pan-Asian menu and retaining all staff while updating its operating hours to 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 12 p.m.–9 p.m. on Sunday.  Johnson County Post

CRIME NEWS

  • Federal prosecutors charged 39-year-old Geovanni Cano with distributing meth across Kansas City after nearly 29 kilos were seized—4 kilos found on him on Aug 28 and 18.6 kilos recovered at his home—while court records allege he made controlled sales with a Mexico-based broker.  KMBC
